My goodess its almost August

Hi Everyone

So sorry about the delay, but I managed to give myself a dose of bronchitis, so I have been lying a bit low.  The drugs are kicking in  now so I'm back at the PC.

WHAT'S NEW

A lot, here is a small selection.  There has been a lot more fabrics arrive in the last few weeks.  I haven't been able to keep up.

Have you caught up with the The Double Wedding Ring Competition?

The New York Modern Quilter Guild is the driving force behind an INTERNATIONAL Double Wedding Ring Challenge.  Wouldn't it be great if an Australian won a category.

Click on this link and read all about it.

We have just received our delivery of the EZ Double Wedding Ring templates.  Phone us if you would like a set.  I think this whole thing looks like good fun.

I have not coughed once during the making of this blog.  It is a miracle.

Gwen Marston - An Event Part Two

Hi Everyone

Here are the rest of the photos from Gwen's visit.

LIBERATED MEDALLIONS

These are Gwen's. Yes she hand quilts most things.

It was a mini quilt show, and lecture with the artist.

Here is what happened in the Workshop.

This is always the way a good Workshop should end.

Again the photos have stopped so I will do the lecture pics next week.

Gwen Marston - An Event

Hi Everybody

Firstly, let me apologise for not posting sooner, but the realities of life have caught up with me.  Gwen  combined with year end stuff has had me too busy to do a post.  I also misplaced my camera for a few days, and that didn't help.

GWEN WAS AMAZING

I'd like to thank everyone involved with Gwen's tour.  I think it is very important to have major quilt artists come out to Australia.  Despite the costs and all the organisation, it is worth it.

Inspiration comes from many places.  Even if you do not like the style of Gwen's current work, it is abstract, but it is rooted in early American quilts, particularly Amish quilts.  Gwen was very open and generous, in both her workshops and her lecture.  For the fortunate few who saw Gwen in person, I think you will agree.  If you couldn't make I am going to post a number of photos of what happened here and at the lecture.

Be inspired, I was.

In between workshop here and at Cottage Quiltworks we had a glass of bubbly.

37 SKETCHES WORKSHOP

These are Gwen's.

The rest is the Workshop's .

The results, yes in a one day workshop.

I can't load any more photos so I will post the second workshop tomorrow.

Where We Came From- Revealed

Hi Everybody

WHAT'S NEW

VISITORS

Linda Jenkins, one half of Piece O' Cake Designs, dropped into the shop.  She was in Sydney, in transit on her way to Perth, visiting relatives. I was thrilled she chose Quiltsmith to visit.  Piece O' Cake Design has been a long time favourite of mine.  Linda remembers posting patterns and books to me when I first opened Quiltsmith, 14 years ago.  I hope she has a lovely time in Australia.

WHERE WE CAME FROM

At last here are the answers to who made which quilt.  Confused see our post 8 June and all will be revealed.

Here's who made what:

MARJ MADE

QUILT NO. 6

LINDY MADE

QUILT NO.1

JANET MADE

QUILT NO.4

LINDA MADE

QUILT NO. 5

SANDRA MADE

QUILT NO. 8

PAM MADE

QUILT NO.3

MARGY MADE

QUILT NO. 7

I MADE

QUILT NO 2.

I love the way our "so last century quilts" look.  We all come from common ground so if you are a beginner just starting out or an old hand at quilting, make sure you keep pieces of your past.  They make interesting viewing.

What I can take away from our first blog guessing game, is that it was too hard (and it is hard to pick who did what). We had one entrant (you guys aren't into guessing games a lesson for me).  So Pat has a $25.00 Gift Voucher heading her way.

The in-store game proved to be a lot more popular (but no easier) we have five winners.  Each of whom will receive their $25 Gift Voucher.

Liz with the winning entries.

We are running around getting ready for Gwen Marston.
