Spring Starts Tommorow

DON'T FORGET TOMORROW, 1 SEPTEMBER, IS THE LAST DAY OF OUR VALUE FABRICS SALE.  $9 A METRE.  AVAILABLE IN STORE ONLY.  SEE YOU THERE.

WHAT'S NEW

We're really not sure, but there is a lot of it. Next week will be fun.

Pomegranate from the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum.  Yum.

We re-ordered the border fabrics and the two eccentric "net" prints from Petra Prins' Josephine, a collection of reproduction antique Dutch fabrics.  They have finally arrived.  Many of you missed out the first time so be quick know as I think this is the last of it.

 CLASS ACTION

Elizabeth has FFFFinished (well almost) her Summer Baskets quilt top.  This is one of Lynne Alchin's beautiful designs.

This is to prove that all good things take a bit of planning.  Also that Lynne is very organised.

SHOP PARADE

Kerry started this beauty in Sue Ross's class in Summer School this year.  Love it.

This is a great example of updating a pattern.  Roddy spotted this odd, but somewhat boring quilt in...

one of my favourite books.  I'm sure the fabric is just beautiful; but it is a quilt of its time.

This is what Roddy has done with it.  Wow.

Not one bit boring.  Go back and have a look at all those books on your shelf, you could find something to up-date too.

Wierd Weather

It has been 30 degrees here today and blowing a gale.  Given we are still officially in winter, this is very odd.  I went out and had to turn the heater off in the car.  I can feel a huge
storm building up, so I thought I had better send a blog out now.

MARGARET SAMPSON-GEORGE
RENOVATION AND RESCUE WORKSHOPS

We are really happy to let you know about two one day workshops we have planned with Marg.  For anyone who was a Marg's talk to the Quilt Study Group of NSW at the Powerhouse Museum, this is your chance to experience how Marg "Restores" quilts under construction.  The photos here are from Marg's regular monthly class here.

Would you put this border on that center?

The object of the Workshops is for you to find all those "beautiful" centers and borders you made back in the day.  They never made it into a finished object (notice I didn't say quilt).  They are the quilts that are in my coma category.  Too good to throw out, too much work to throw out but you have totally lost your mojo over it.

Bring them out of the cupboard.  Breath life into them and end up with a quilt with the  Marg Sampson magic touch. Plus what a fun day seeing your own problem child blossom, but the rest of the classes' as well.  The ultimate Play Day.

One day workshop 10 am until 3pm.

You have the choice of

Sunday 30 September or

Sunday 25 November

Or come to both days.  Each Workshop cost $70.00.

Please ring the shop to make a booking, numbers are limited.  9550 4947.

A collection of hexys can be the catalyst.

Here are just more photos from the class to share with you.

CLASS ACTION

Anne Sommerlad's class this week.  Look at his quilt. All string pieced from men's silk ties.  You read about making "tie" quilts, I just wanted to own this one.  Well done Kerri.

Love the label.

SHOP PARADE

A very nice green quilt was seen in the shop this week.

VALUE FABRIC SALE

VALUE FABRIC SALE

$9.00 PER METER

 0.5m MINIMUM

The cardboard boxes are too full so we are clearing them out.

Starting Saturday 18 August until Saturday 1 September.

These are in-store sales and are not on our web-site.

See you here with your bargain buying hats on.

WHAT'S NEW

I had to show you these new fabrics, that have just arrived.

Just love the prawns.  On the web-site Oriental Fabrics - Textured Cottons.

Anyone need to make a baby quilt?

These are really interesting Australiana.

MY APPLIQUE PROJECT NO. 5

My Auntie Green's Quilt is coming along, we had another class with Sue Ross last week.  (Sorry about the pink but I can't seem to be able to go back to black - technology!)  Here are some progress photos.  We still have room in this class for more applique nuts.

It's time to start adding some of the miles of bias I have made. (The black's back.)

You just take whatever bias winds off the noodle and you are not supposed to get two biases that look identical, just like I managed.

Having given up the totally random approach for bias placement, auditioning began.

I'm quite pleased with the end result.

See you in the shop for all those bargains in the boxes.

AIRING OF THE QUILTS

Sunday 7 October, 2pm for a 2.30 start.
It’s on again.   I have some new quilts to show.

For those of you who missed it the last few times, for some years now I have wanted to have a “show & tell” of customer’s antique and vintage quilts.  I know a number of us buy old quilts, love them to death but end up putting them away safely in a cupboard.  I know I do that myself.

So if you have some quilts you would like to share with other quilt collectors, bring them along.  If you just love old quilts but don’t own any, come along too, you may catch the bug.

Bookings are essential for the Airing of the Quilts, as we only have so many chairs, so please ring to book your place, and let us know if you are bringing quilts with you.

Cost $10.00
Afternoon tea will be provided.
Limited numbers so ring to book your place now on
02 9550 4947.

CLASS ACTION

Here are photo's from yesterdays Embroidery Embellishment Workshop with Kirsten from Prints Charming.

Itching to be Stitching

I'm so excited, it is rare that we can run a class for a project featured in a "main stream" magazine.  The Prints Charming girls have managed that for me.  We still have a few vacancies in our Prints Charming workshop on this Wednesday - 8 August.  So don't miss out.

Grab a copy of the latest Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, and see the article on Prints Charming's beautiful embroideries.  To book a place in the workshop please ring the shop on 02 95504947.

 CLASS ACTION

A few snaps of today's Anne Sommerlad class.

I'll be watching to see what happens with all these great fabrics.
